Postext
Layout engine applying print typography rules to web content
Visit postext.dev ↗What is Postext?
Postext is an open-source layout engine that brings professional print typesetting techniques to the web. It accepts semantic markdown and configuration objects, then computes precise page geometry using techniques like Knuth-Plass justification, column balancing, and widow/orphan prevention. The engine measures text 300–600× faster than the DOM and renders output as HTML, canvas, or print-ready PDF.
Designed for publishers and developers who need editorial-grade layouts on the web, Postext handles complex tasks that CSS cannot: keeping headings with paragraphs, floating figures intelligently, and balancing columns. The maker built it with Claude Code. Users can preview changes live in a sandbox as they edit markdown.
