Lerd
Open-source local PHP development for Linux and macOS with rootless Podman
Visit lerd.sh ↗What is Lerd?
Lerd is a local development environment for PHP projects on Linux, macOS, and Windows via WSL2. It runs Nginx, PHP-FPM, and services as rootless Podman containers, eliminating the need for Docker, sudo, or system-level configuration. The project describes itself as built for PHP developers who want frictionless local development.
Key features include automatic .test domains with one-command HTTPS via mkcert, per-project PHP version switching (7.4–8.5), per-project Node isolation, flame-graph profiling, a browser-based PHP REPL, debug window for dump() output, and worker self-heal for queue and scheduler monitoring. It auto-detects Laravel, Symfony, WordPress, Drupal, and other PHP frameworks, plus Node, Python, Rails, and Go projects. The build uses Claude Code tools.
