ESPectre
Wi-Fi motion sensing for ESP32 without cameras or microphones
Visit espectre.dev ↗What is ESPectre?
ESPectre turns a supported ESP32 into a local motion sensor by detecting changes in Wi-Fi signals. It requires only an ESP32 board and an existing Wi-Fi network—no cameras, microphones, or dedicated radar hardware. The platform offers browser-based installation, a C++ SDK for embedding into custom firmware, and integrations with Home Assistant, Matter, and MQTT.
Designed for privacy-conscious automation and security use cases, ESPectre enables features like occupancy-based lighting and climate control, or motion-triggered alarms. All processing happens locally on the device with no cloud dependency. The project includes ready-to-flash firmware, open model weights, and an open dataset. According to build evidence, the project was developed with Claude.
