apfel
CLI access to Apple's built-in language model with zero configuration
Visit apfel.franzai.com ↗What is apfel?
apfel is a command-line tool that unlocks the language model already included with macOS Tahoe on Apple Silicon Macs. Install via brew with no model downloads, API keys, or configuration needed. It runs entirely on-device through Apple's Neural Engine, with a 3-billion-parameter model and 4,096-token context window.
The tool offers three interfaces: a UNIX-style CLI for piping and scripting, an OpenAI-compatible server at localhost:11434, and an interactive chat mode. Features include JSON schema output, file attachments (including PDFs and images), multi-turn conversations, tool calling, and streaming responses. All processing happens locally with no data leaving your Mac.
