Tene
Encrypted secret manager CLI that hides API keys from AI agents
Visit tene.sh ↗What is Tene?
Tene is a local-first CLI tool that encrypts your API keys and secrets, then injects them at runtime so AI coding agents like Claude Code and Cursor never see plaintext values. It uses XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption with Argon2id key derivation, storing everything in an encrypted SQLite vault on your device with no server or cloud dependency.
Designed for developers using AI agents in their workflow, Tene solves the problem of .env files being readable by AI models during code analysis. Setup takes one minute: install, initialize your project, import existing secrets, and run commands through tene to safely use credentials. The tool is open-source under MIT license and includes auto-generated context files for Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini, and Codex.
