SplatHash
Compress images to 16-byte hashes for fast blur previews
Visit junevm.github.io ↗What is SplatHash?
SplatHash encodes any image into a fixed 16-byte payload (22 characters in base64url format) and reconstructs it as a 32×32 blurry preview in microseconds. The algorithm uses Gaussian basis functions and perceptual color space optimization to balance quality and size. It works across Go, TypeScript, and Python with bit-exact consistency.
Designed for developers building image-heavy applications, SplatHash serves as a lightweight placeholder system. The project describes itself as an alternative to BlurHash and ThumbHash, offering faster decode performance and fixed output size suitable for database storage or API responses.
