Axe
CLI tool for running single-purpose LLM agents defined in TOML
Visit docs.getaxe.dev ↗What is Axe?
Axe is a lightweight command-line tool for orchestrating focused AI agents, each configured via TOML files. Rather than building chatbots with massive context windows, Axe follows Unix philosophy: each agent does one thing well. Agents can be triggered from the CLI, piped together, or integrated with cron, git hooks, and CI systems. The tool supports multiple LLM providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama, and AWS Bedrock.
Features include persistent memory across runs, sub-agent delegation via LLM tool use, stdin piping for chaining agents, MCP server integration, built-in tools for file operations and web search, and token budgets to control costs. Written in Go, Axe is a 12MB binary with minimal dependencies and no daemon or GUI required.
