APM
Dependency manager for AI agents, like npm for agent context
Visit microsoft.github.io ↗What is APM?
APM is a dependency manager that lets developers declare skills, prompts, instructions, plugins, and MCP servers in a single apm.yml file. Once declared, any developer can run apm install to deploy these components across supported AI coding harnesses including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, and others. This ensures consistent, reproducible agent setups across teams and machines.
The tool prioritizes portability, security, and governance. Manifests work across multiple harnesses, lockfiles pin exact versions and content hashes for byte-for-byte reproducibility, and security scanning blocks hidden Unicode and undeclared transitive dependencies by default. Policy files enable organizations to enforce standards across repositories with tighten-only inheritance.
