Beads
Dependency-aware issue tracker for AI coding agents that survive context loss
Visit beads.gascity.com ↗What is Beads?
Beads is a CLI-based issue tracker powered by Dolt, designed specifically for AI-supervised coding workflows. It replaces traditional issue trackers like Jira and GitHub Issues with a dependency-aware graph that helps AI agents handle long-horizon tasks without losing context. The system uses hash-based IDs to prevent collisions when multiple agents work concurrently, stores issues in a version-controlled SQL database, and provides a formula system for declarative workflow templates.
Beads integrates with popular AI coding tools including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and others through a setup system that installs hooks and guidance files. It offers multi-agent coordination features like routing, gates, and molecules for complex workflows, plus commands like `bd ready` to show only unblocked work and `bd claim` for agents to take tasks. The tool is self-hosted and installed system-wide rather than per-project.
