WERM
C. elegans brain simulation steering a language model in your browser
Visit werm.si ↗What is WERM?
WERM is a 302-neuron network modeled on the actual connectome of Caenorhabditis elegans, the first animal to have its entire brain mapped. The simulation runs in a browser tab and uses the worm's neural state to modulate parameters of a local language model—adjusting settings like temperature and sampling behavior without generating words itself. The site includes an interactive 3D connectome globe, the worm's full genome drawn to scale, and simulated worms that forage and interact. Built with Claude-code, it combines real neuroscience data (Cook et al. 2019 connectome, NCBI reference genome) with a recurrent neuron model inspired by liquid time constant networks.
