URML
Open specification for robot intent and compliance verification
Visit urml.dev ↗What is URML?
URML is a human-readable language specification for describing what robots should do, independent of their underlying hardware or operating system. It sits above ROS 2, PX4, and other robot platforms, providing a shared vocabulary for robot intent. Every URML program is statically validated against the robot's capabilities and safety policies before execution, catching unsafe commands on paper rather than attempting them on hardware.
Designed for end users, roboticists, and regulators, URML includes built-in US federal compliance checking (NDAA, FCC, EO 14307) and a public registry for verified robot profiles. The specification is Apache 2.0 licensed and includes reference implementations, a validator tool, and an LLM bridge. The makers used Claude Code to build it.
