Spectre is a Kotlin library that lets you drive live Compose Desktop user interfaces from automated tests. It reads the Compose semantics tree, controls mouse and keyboard input through synthetic AWT events or OS-level commands, and captures screen recordings. The library works with IDE-hosted Compose surfaces like IntelliJ and Jewel, as well as standalone desktop applications.
Designed for developers testing Compose Desktop apps, Spectre offers a familiar testing pattern similar to Android's UI Automator and Espresso. It supports in-process and cross-JVM automation, includes built-in recording and screenshot capabilities, and integrates with JUnit 4 and JUnit 5. The maker says it was built with Claude Code.
