SkinLab
3D biophysical skin model with realistic wound healing and scar treatment
Visit drmagnuslynch.com ↗What is SkinLab?
SkinLab is an interactive browser-based simulation of human skin that lets you perform surgical procedures and observe realistic healing. Built as a single HTML file using WebGL and three.js, it models 1.2 million voxels across the epidermis, dermis, and fat layer at 0.25 mm resolution. Users can cut, punch, ablate, or treat skin with laser tools, then watch wounds heal into scars over simulated time.
The model incorporates biophysical principles from published research, including collagen fiber mechanics, skin tension lines, and healing biology modeled through coupled differential equations. It's designed for dermatologists, researchers, and educators to explore how surgical technique affects scarring outcomes. The maker, a dermatologist, built it with Claude Code over five days.
