Entity-level version control and code analysis on top of Git
Visit ataraxy-labs.github.io ↗What is sem?
sem is a semantic version control tool that layers on top of Git to provide function and class-level insights instead of line-based diffs. It parses code using tree-sitter across 28 languages, then shows what entities changed, who modified them, what breaks when they change, and how they evolved over time. The tool works in any Git repository with no configuration required.
Designed for developers and AI coding agents, sem offers six core commands: diff (entity-level changes with rename detection), blame (per-entity commit history), impact (cross-file dependency analysis), and log (entity evolution). Cloud-backed queries are optional and per-repository, with local audit logs and privacy controls. The material indicates it was built using Claude Code.
