Open Scion is an open-source implementation of Anthropic's Scion version control system, designed for environments where coding agents make thousands of concurrent code changes. Unlike Git, which was built for individual developers cloning repositories and pushing periodically, Scion moves computational work to the server, allowing agents to fetch only needed files, land changes via compare-and-swap operations, and resolve conflicts automatically. The system uses a changeset log and consistent database backend instead of distributed history, enabling it to handle hundreds of agents reading and writing code simultaneously without merge queue bottlenecks.
