COTAL
Open protocol for coordinating AI agents from any vendor into one team
Visit cotal.ai ↗What is COTAL?
COTAL is an open-source protocol that enables AI agents from different vendors to work together in a shared space. Agents can discover each other, communicate by name or channel, and coordinate work regardless of their underlying framework or where they run—laptops, cloud VMs, CI runners, or on-premises servers. The system maintains a replayable log of all actions, making it easy to audit who did what and when.
Designed for teams building multi-agent systems, COTAL lets you define any topology: flat peer teams, manager-worker hierarchies, chains of command, or custom arrangements. It's self-hosted under Apache 2.0, works with Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, and other agent frameworks, and can be deployed with a single command. The maker says it was built with Claude Code.
