Compartment is a local memory storage system for AI agents that runs entirely on your computer without requiring API keys, accounts, or network access. It stores agent learnings persistently across sessions and projects, with all data encrypted on disk. The system uses hybrid vector and keyword search with response times around 12ms, includes an embedded model, and comes pre-loaded with reference facts about hardware, operating systems, and shell tools.

Designed for developers and AI agent operators who want private, persistent memory for Claude, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients. Installation requires pip and a single command to integrate with supported agents. Memory entries include source attribution and optional expiration dates, with preference updates replacing previous values automatically.
